Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC) 2010 National Conference
For Our Children: Local Strengths, National Challenges. Ampe Anwernekenheke: Rlterrke Akwete Aneye

This conference will provide an opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, policy makers, researchers, government representatives, other non-government organisations and various industry representatives to gather and make renewed commitments to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children.

The Conference Objectives are around sharing and celebrating, growing our knowledge, challenging others to acknowledge history and respect culture, and to foster leadership. We are looking at providing a number of interpreters and encourage participants to present in their language.

Invited keynote speakers include:

  • Cindy Blackstock, the Executive Director of the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada.
  • Maggie Dent, an author, publisher, professional speaker and consultant specialising in building personal and professional resilience.
  • Rosalie Kunoth-Monks, an Arrente/Amatjere woman from Utopia and the Barkly Shire President. Throughout her life Rosalie has remained passionately involved in traditional and contemporary Aboriginal issues including law and justice, education and childcare.
  • Grant Sarra is a consultant that deals exclusively with Indigenous community aspirations, problems and issues relevant to public and private sector organisations and projects throughout Australia.
  • Professor Dorothy Scott is the Foundation Chair in Child Protection and the Director of the Australian Centre for Child Protection at the University of South Australia.
  • Kerrie Tim is Manager of the Indigenous Leadership Development Group in the Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.
